EARLY MARRIAGE

"For richer or for poorer, for better or for worst, till death do us part" is a common utterance from couples being married during their exchange of vows. This is the main spice of the marriage ceremony where in the husband and wife promise to love one another forever. Love is present in their heart as they see eye to eye conveying their unending affection, love and adoration to the one they married. In the eyes of many witnesses, they make their pledge of doing anything to make the marriage successful. But in this generation, is the real essence of marriage being honored? Why it is that early marriage can be a problem to some?
On the 27th of March 2010, a woman got married because she was already carrying a baby on her womb. It was the main reason why she got married. She was young and has no work, and her husband is just a security guard that time, earning only a minimum wage not enough for the family. Then came the day she gave birth. It was the happiest moment for her yet the saddest because she can’t be able to raise her child properly and even cried tons of tears because there come those days that they had no money to buy milk for the baby. She regretted not finishing school before marriage but cannot do anything to get it back now. Quarreling then start especially regarding money matters. The couple had realized that lovemaking doesn’t compensate the needs for survival (food). The marriage nearly broke but fortunately with the parent’s hep, they survived. The wife was me.
Marriage is the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband and wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law. It is one of the sacraments of God that should have preparations before it is done. Before, when a person marry, they will automatically think that he/she is in love. But now, if someone marries, people may think the woman is pregnant. This is true because it is usually the case of committing into marriage even some are young and not yet ready for it. They are forced to marry so as not to be embarrassed and for the child not to be illegitimate. Later on if it doesn’t work, it will lead to broken families. Furthermore, it will burden the young couple leading to poverty and some into committing petty crimes just to live. It will ruin the lives of many.
How do you, my fellow students, avoid such incident? Of course, you should focus on your studies first instead of getting involved with a relationship with the opposite sex. You should avoid having girlfriends/boyfriends yet in order to avoid pregnancy leading to early marriage. Maybe for some, it will just for inspiration that is good. But mostly, those who have relationships are pushing it through the limit of intimacy. Try to join school activities also to divert sprouting feelings of love. It doesn’t mean that loving is bad but what I am telling is, do it in the right time. When you have already finished your studies and have a stable work to raise an ideal family. Then most of all, stick to God for he will guide you to the right path and deliver you from evil.
Through experience, I had learned my lesson. And I want to share this in order for you, my fellow to learn from it too.  Do not enter into early marriage when you are not yet ready to commit. Let me leave you a translated Filipino saying, “Marriage is not like a hot potato that can be spitted if your tongue gets burns”.
